Poke Island | San Mateo, CA

Poke is basically a Hawaiian raw fish salad. 

Growing up it never really looked enticing to me to eat raw fish. 

But, as I got older and started eating sushi with raw fish instead of all the deep fried or baked options.

I decided to give poke a try. 

And I am so glad I did!

Poke is definitely one of my favorite dishes to eat now.

My mom and I love trying poke spots in the area and I recently went with a friend to a photoshoot at Poke Island. 

The food looked amazing I told my mom  about it so we decided to check it out. 

We order two bowls to get a little variety in the dishes they had to offer. 

Baby Scallop Small Bowl | ★★★★★

We got one of their small bowls, that for the base we chose mixed greens and for the main we chose the baby scallops, and on top we chose the edamame salad. 

Land and Sea Bowl | ★★★★★

The second bowl we ordered was the Land and Sea Bowl. 

The Land and Sea Bowl was much larger than the small bowl and included spicy sesame chicken and spicy tuna with avocado on mixed green and sushi rice. 

My mom and I usually don't like our food too spicy but the spicy chicken and tuna just had a little kick to it. 

My mom thought it was a little spicy, but she was still able to eat everything. 

We really enjoyed the sushi rice as well, it had really good flavor. 

I love the look of this restaurant the color scheme is so cute and fresh. 

The only complaint I have with the restaurant was it was kinda warm inside because the sun just shines directly inside towards the end of the day. 

So maybe going later in the evening might be better, unless they decide to bump up the AC.

Poke Island is great the food is fresh and tasty. They really take the time to make the dishes look presentable as well. 

If you are ever in the area I would definitely suggest stopping here for a nice bowlful of poke.
