Camping at Patrick's Point State Park | Labor Day Weekend 2021

We went camping this past Labor Day weekend at Patrick’s Point State Park in Trinidad, California and highly recommend if you are looking for a place to camp on the coast.

This was a bit of a further drive for us from the Bay Area (about 5.5 hours), but I still think it was a great camping spot.

Definitely worth the trip if you are looking for a lush and green camping experience.

North Coast Brewing Co. Taproom Restaurant & Bar

We stopped at the North Coast Brewing Co. Taproom Restaurant and Bar for lunch on our way up to Patrick’s Point.

The restaurant is located in Fort Bragg. It was a great little stop for lunch.

The restaurant did have a wait but it was totally worth it in our opinions. They also offer outdoor dining and the servers were also wearing masks.

What we ordered

Rei and I shared everything below and we were so full! Check out their menu here.

  • The Scrimshaaw 1/2 Fish & 1/2 Shrimp - Rock Cod, Pacific Shrimp, Scrimshaw beer batter, Old No. 38 tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, coleslaw and pub fries.

  • Cup of Clam Chowder

  • Harvest Salad - Spring mix, fresh seasonal veggies, garbanzo beans, walnuts, grapes with our house made balsamic vinaigrette

  • Red Seal Ale

  • Tart Cherry

Glass Beach

We walked from the restaurant to Glass Beach to check out the beach and tide pools.

A cute little spot to look at small, smooth and colorful beach glass.

We also were able to check out some of the tide pools and found a few hermit crabs, snails and anemone.

After this mini adventure we got back into the car to continue our journey to Patrick’s Point.

Patrick’s Point

After about three hours of driving we finally arrived at Patrick’s Point!

We then raced against the sun trying to set up our campsite before it got too dark.

We stayed at campsite #58 and it was about a 5-minute walk for us to get to the restrooms and a trail that led to the coast.

After walking to the trail caught the sunset for the day which was really beautiful.

Tall Trees Grove Trail

This was a super cool hike! If you love redwood trees you will really enjoy this one. Check out the trail here.

You will need to get a free online permit to hike this trail, but my friend did it online and said it was very easy.

This was about 4 miles, you’re mostly hiking down hill for 1.5 miles and then you get to the loop for 1 mile and go back the way you hiked down for 1.5 miles.

This really was only strenuous coming back up, but other wise it was a pretty mild hike.

There was a lot of shade as well from the trees which kept things nice and cool.

More Hikes!

When we got back to the campsite we actually ended up hiking along the coast to Agate Beach.

There are many little trails on the way as well. You can view them on this map.

They’re good spots as well to catch the sunset as well. I recommend doing that once on your trip.
